Lurking in my stash was some red yarn and lots of white yarn... what could I make? Candy canes of course!
I can't remember quite where the pattern came from but I most likely found it browsing through Ravelry and then skipping through whichever blog I was directed to to find my chosen pattern.
They almost work like magic - chain 52 and then 3SC in each chain. They twist all by themselves! Make one in red, one in white and then layer them together. Twist a pipe cleaner into the resulting floppy candy cane and there you are.
BabyDragon's teacher got a jar full of home made candy canes as her Christmas gift. I think she appreciated them. Still, I enjoyed making them. I my even get to make myself a set for next Christmas as I still have more red and white yarn snuggling in my stash drawer.
I have a strange idea that I might make a bulk load of these and sell them. To this end I have been religiously saving the jars from Cadburys chocolate spread which seem to empty themselves with remarkable speed in our house. I am, of course, deluded since I will never get round to either making that quantity of canes or selling them at any kind of fair but it's nice to have aspirations.
