My Personal Hell

You've heard me complain about rugby before. Well, it doesn't get much worse than this. A festival.
I have bad memories of this

Well, to be fair, it could be worse. It could be raining.

Anyway, we arrived more or less on time and were directed to park in perhaps the most dodgy looking place I have ever seen. Imagine a vandalised changing block complete with graffiti, broken glass and burnt out sofas. Lovely! To be honest, I was rather surprised when we came back and found the car still had all its wheels.

I gamely traipsed across the field, trying to portray a sense that I was enjoying this. Memories of school hockey meant that I was well wrapped up with a thick fleece, thermal top and a coat suitable for a Nordic winter.

So. The festival.

Three matches, something like 10 minutes each way, 45 minutes between each one... the earliest we were going to get out of there was 1pm. The desire to get home was at war with my desire to see SmallDragon#2's team do well.

Looks almost pleasant

I think I cheered them on and clapped in all the right places but, if I'm honest, I really had very little idea what was going on. Some of the more clued up mothers were shouting stuff like "Push! Get him out! Come on!" which, I have to say, sounded more like instructions from a midwife. Whilst I don't know much, I do know that when the coach says your child made a "try saving tackle" it is a good thing. Two matches down - one loss, one win. One match to go.

More iPads than an NHS iClinic

The quality of the club was demonstrated perfectly during the between match rest periods. The number of iPads brought out was amazing. I'm not sure I've ever seen so many in one place at a time. Nor have I seen quite so many children being quiet  at the same time. I suspect the two may have been related.

There was a very nice gazebo too.

Which was very handy a short while later.

Yes, that's rain

Sadly, the team lost the final match and were out of the tournament. On the bright side, I believe that concludes my involvement in the rugby season this year.
